Love. Faith. Respect. Perseverance. Service.
Through our Christian ethos, we teach children to hear, understand and live the word of God, helping them to give back to the world as global citizens. As every child is uniquely created in God’s image, we nurture their individual development through a holistic approach to all aspects of life.
The vision of St Mary’s is grounded in the Parable of the Sower. Through a thorough Christian foundation, we aim to transform children’s minds into “good soil” ready to hear and act upon the word of God. Through collective and personal prayer, children are taught how to communicate with God in both good and difficult times. Through teaching and lived example, children learn to look to the Gospels for inspiration and develop a secure understanding of what it means to hope, persist, forgive and be forgiven. We acknowledge that every member of our school community is unique, with their own particular interests, strengths and weaknesses. However, through listening to God, everyone at St Mary’s seeks to grow in His grace, becoming more open to His love and giving back to the world many times over. We aim to provide a stimulating curriculum with an environmental focus that will prepare our children both intellectually and spiritually for the challenges of the 21st century.
That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the lake. Large crowds gathered around him, so Jesus got into a boat and sat, while the people stayed on the shore. Jesus used parables to teach them many things.
He said: “A farmer went out to plant his seed. As he scattered the seed, some fell by the road. The birds came and ate all that seed. Some seed fell on rocky ground, where there wasn’t enough dirt. That seed grew very fast, because the ground was not deep. But when the sun rose, the plants dried up because they did not have deep roots. Some other seed fell among thorny weeds. The weeds grew and choked the good plants. Some other seed fell on good ground where it grew and became grain. Some plants made 100 times more grain. Other plants made 60 times more grain, and some made 30 times more grain. Let those with ears use them and listen!”
The Gospel of Matthew, Chapter 13
St Mary’s School is a Church of England School, founded on Christian principles and with a Christian ethos that underpins all that happens in the school. We expect that everyone who attends will be supportive of the Christian foundation of the school. However this does not mean that all our pupils come from a Christian background, and children from all faiths and none are warmly welcome to apply.
Our Collective Worship allows children at St Mary’s School the opportunity to reflect upon and develop their own beliefs and self-identity, whilst nurturing respect for the beliefs of others.
