Flexi-Schooling

At St Mary's, we offer a flexible and supportive approach to education through our Flexi-Schooling programme. This option allows families from the boroughs of Ealing, Hounslow and beyond to combine traditional school-based learning with home education, providing an approach that can be tailored to the individual needs of each child and family.

What is Flexi-Schooling?

Flexi-Schooling is a blended approach to education where a child attends school on agreed days and is educated at home for the remainder of the week. It provides families with the opportunity to combine the structure and community of school with the flexibility of learning at home.

This approach can support children’s individual strengths, interests and learning needs, while ensuring they continue to benefit from the social, academic and extracurricular opportunities available within our school community.

How Does Flexi-Schooling Work at St Mary’s?

Each Flexi-Schooling arrangement is individually agreed between the family and the school. Children attend school on their agreed days and continue their education at home on the remaining days, with parents or guardians taking responsibility for their home education.

Families are given access to curriculum resources and work closely with school staff to support a consistent educational journey and to ensure that the arrangement continues to meet the needs of the child, family and school.

How do attendance and safeguarding procedures work with Flexi-Schooling?

Flexi-Schooling children are an important part of the St Mary’s community and are encouraged to participate fully in school life, including assemblies, activities and events.

A Flexi-Schooling schedule is agreed between the family and the school and, once agreed, children are expected to attend on their designated school days in line with the same attendance expectations that apply to our full-time pupils. We are therefore unable to authorise holidays during term time.

Attendance on agreed Flexi-School days is monitored carefully. If attendance falls below 93%, the Flexi-Schooling arrangement will be reviewed and may be brought to an end.

Flexi-School pupils are very welcome to attend for additional days, for example when there is a special visitor, trip or other activity taking place. Some children also choose to come for the first and last day of each term to support transition.

Our usual safeguarding procedures apply to all Flexi-School pupils. We also maintain regular communication and additional check-ins with families to ensure that Flexi-Schooling continues to work well and that the child remains happy, safe and well supported.
