Safeguarding

Safeguarding at St Mary's

St Mary's Church of England Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff, students and volunteers to share this commitment. It is the duty of care for the school to make sure all our children feel safe and happy and is underpinned through our vision and values.

All staff are trained in safeguarding when they join the school and this training is updated annually or sooner if necessary. The training ensures staff are aware of the signs to look out for if a child may be being harmed/abused. It also informs them how to deal with the situation and report it appropriately. Similarly, children are reminded that they can share information with staff who will always be there to listen and support them.

We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment, including our Child Protection Policy which can be viewed in the Policies section of our website.

Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child's welfare. We endeavour to discuss our concerns about our pupils with his or her parents or carers first, unless we have reason to believe that such a move may have an impact on the children in our care. We work closely with Ealing Children’s Services and take guidance from them.

We actively support the Government's Prevent Agenda to counter radicalism and extremism and all stakeholders have received training in this as well.

All adults in school have to wear lanyards:

Staff = Purple

Governors= Orange

Visitors = Green

We have a Safeguarding team, which also includes a parent support worker. Please see the poster below. The trustee responsible for Safeguarding is Graham Beeden.

If any parent or carer has concerns about the safety of a child, we encourage you to discuss your concern with one of the above named adults. You can also contact Children’s Services anonymously on 020 8825 8000.
